We didn’t have a proper baseball field. Nor were we playing baseball; it was softball, with its larger and softer ball, heavier as well, hard for anyone to hit very far, never mind scrawny sixth graders in 1958.

No, our field was just a grass field, sunk lower behind the paved playground at the Cottage Street Elementary School in Sharon, Massachusetts. No stands, no proper markings, just a place where the boys could play during recess. At an ordinary recess, I would not have been playing or watching as I, a four-eyed bookish boy, would not have been invited. 

Dennis Mahoney would have played, because he was an athlete.

Accessibility is important Anthony Lawrence (Pcunix) TECHNOLOGY Safari can show text in photos, Voice Over should read it, but it doesn’t Yesterday I posted an article about Google Bard and made a bad accessibility mistake. I posted screenshots of Bard and ChatGPT rather than pasting in the content. That was sloppy. I want to thank for calling me on my error at “ Your ChatGPT Screenshots Suck ”. I won’t make that mistake again, but it also reminded me to be more aware of Alt Text. Alt Text is important If the text had been short, I could have used the Alt Text option to add what a sighted person can see. Unfortunately, Safari and probably the Web Accessibility Standards only allow a limited amount of explanation in Alt Text. I didn’t think of it anyway, so that wouldn’t have helped.   Apple Fitness+ Was a Big Help for My Weight Loss I’m glad that I came back to it HEALTH Adobe Firefly image by author “Older man exercising with dumbbells” I recently  wrote about my long path to lose the weight  I had gained before retiring. As I said there, part of my success came from exercising more than I did when I was working. I have always found time for exercise and was never in really poor shape, but I wasn’t doing enough to stay in really  good  shape. It didn’t help that I was a smoker until 1995, and the long hours I spent driving to my customers who were scattered all over New England added to my sloth and my dad bod. Most of my exercise was simple things like walking, pushups, calisthenics, that sort of thing, with an occasional visit to the gym. Those at least kept me from obesity. Then, shortly after I retired, Apple announced Fitness+ and I added that to my workouts. Too hard for me I had a hard time with the workouts. I wasn’t flexible enough, my endurance was poor
